The Mixed Martial Arts Sports Association of Hong Kong, China in the second year, 2024, a professional MMA referee training program will be established to cultivate a local referee team with international standards, thereby comprehensively enhancing the fairness and safety of MMA competitions in Hong Kong.
This training program emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, with the curriculum covering three core areas: interpretation of internationally recognized MMA rules, standards for judging fouls, and decision-making training in simulated competition scenarios. Through case studies and simulated officiating, trainees will learn to make accurate judgments in critical moments, such as knockouts, submissions, and fight stoppages.
The training program, held annually, will also invite experienced senior referees with domestic and international competition backgrounds to serve as instructors, sharing practical judgment cases and techniques. Outstanding trainees will not only receive internationally recognized referee certifications but will also have the opportunity to be recommended to officiate regional competitions, including international platforms such as the Asian Amateur MMA Championships.
This initiative further establishes a continuous learning mechanism, with regular refresher courses for referees to ensure their knowledge remains up to date. In the long term, the association aims to enhance the credibility of MMA competitions in Hong Kong through rigorous training, attract more participants and audiences, and improve the local MMA sports ecosystem.
